Toyota will continue hiring at its North Mississippi plant, where it will manufacture seats and other interior materials for the all new 2012 Corolla. The announcement was made last Friday at the site of the $46 million parts plant. The Corolla will be built at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi plant located near Blue Springs.

"We have begun and will continue to fulfill our promise to invest in the community and create new jobs in the region," Masaki Katsuragi, CEO of Toyota Boshoku America, said. The equipment needed to begin production has been ordered and will be installed in December.

Toyota Boshoku produces automotive interior systems, which include headliners, seats, door trims, carpets and other equipment for all of Toyota's models.

Katsuragi said the company expects to hire more than 60 workers by end of December, and 250 more by the time production starts in the fall of 2011.

Toyota announced previously it was restarting its Blue Springs plant. Company officials expect to have about 1000 workers initially and 2000 employees once it is fully operational. They have hired about 180 people so far. Suppliers are expected to employ another 1500 to 2000.
