When it comes to getting things done, leave it to Toyota to do the job through both traditional and more creative means. Now pair that with our ideas of what how they should design a car; add in social media, and you've got yourself a great customer-company collaborative effort in designing new Toyota models we've come to love.
That's right, a hybrid model of the UK's Auris--which shares the same platform as the Corolla, will be designed as part of Toyota's social media project. Via Twitter using the hashtag #We BuiltIt, Toyota will let a flow of Tweets guide specific features to show up on the model. For those who want to see to believe, the campaign will have links to photos, blog entries, and videos. Seeing the finished product will certainly provide the participants in the project a special satisfaction.
Toyota takes it a step further by using Twitter to show its fans just how much care goes into the production process. To give you an idea, Toyota will show 325 production processes such as welding, painting, assembly and quality control, among others. Quality comes from somewhere, and we imagine explaining the process will only bring drivers closer to their Toyota vehicles.
"We want to convey the quality of our cars to those who are not involved in car production and this campaign is a good way to do that," explains Scott Brownlee, head of social media for Toyota Great Britain. "We are also trying to engage with customers beyond the buying process at dealerships."1
