Toyota is one automaker we can say, without reservation, has a good heart. That's one of the reasons we're so proud to carry the brand. One, recent example of their generosity, is the distribution of over $1-million in grants to K-12 programs focused in science, math and, of course, engineering. Made on behalf of Toyota USA Foundation, this year's funds were awarded to seven different programs/foundations promoting, not only real-world education and development (of both students and teachers), but diversity, innovation and lean operations.
While one winning program provides, interactive workshops designed to promote enthusiasm for learning science among young students, another offers accelerated training for midcareer scientists who wish to transition from lab to classroom. The idea is that to support K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education in the U.S., you need to support the educators as well as the kids.
Another example of the balance, Toyota USA Foundation is careful to strike in their awards distribution: While one winner will receive funds to expand the development, implementation and teacher training for a bilingual, educational computer game, Kids Play Math. Another will use the grant money to train elementary school teachers using a unique Japanese strategy to enhance the caliber of mathematics instruction.
