Toyota has a long history of philanthropic efforts; they even have a dedicated Philanthropic department. So, even a record earthquake, tsunami and less-than-optimal supply levels are not going to get in the way of their generosity.
Toyota's latest philanthropic effort is in conjunction with the Today Show's "Lend a Hand" series. The Japanese automaker has in fact participated in the series for the past two years, donating a Toyota Sienna, in 2009 and 2010. This year, Toyota went above and beyond what was expected of them, donating a new Toyota model to five different charitable organizations around the country.
"Toyota is thrilled to support Today Show's 'Lend a Hand' series in recognizing the important work of local charities," says Michael Rouse, VP Philanthropy, Toyota. "In addition, to participating in the Lend a Hand Series, Toyota is also currently running a separate program on Toyota's Facebook (page - www.facebook.com/toyota) called '100 Cars for Good' where we invite the public to help us donate 100 cars in 100 days to charities they consider worthy. So naturally, Toyota lending a hand to charities that Today deems worthy is a natural extension of our philosophy to put cars on the road doing good, all across the country."1
The Today Show's "Lend a Hand", for those of you not familiar with it, launched in 2002. The organization was originally founded to lend a helping hand to charities whose funding was cut following 9/11. And, while circumstances have changed, "Lend a Hand" lives on today, striving to help deserving charities make a positive impact on their respective communities.
