The Toyota RAV4 EV might seem new. Really, it's a next-generation of the compact crossover EV which originally debuted 15 years ago, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It was even on sale for a short time in the state of California, from 2001 to 2003 (when production ended)...What can we say...it was just a little too ahead of its time.

Today, however, EVs are gaining stronger and stronger traction within the market. With interest at an all-time high and expected only to grow further, it's easy to understand just how disappointed consumers were to read reports claiming that the next-generation Toyota RAV4 EV will not be available to the general public.

Likewise, it will be equally exciting to learn that those reports were completely inaccurate. While Toyota will make the next-gen RAV4 EV available to fleet and car-share customers, they will also sell the EV to the general public...Big sigh of relief!. And, you know what that means....

Toyota will be the only automaker in the industry to offer two different EVs for the 2012 model year. Thought the Scion iQ will, in fact, be available only to fleet and car sharing programs.

Setting the record straight in a recent press release, Toyota said, "Recent reports have incorrectly stated that the 2012 RAV4 EV will only be marketed to fleet and car sharing programs...The 2012 RAV4 EV will definitely be sold to the general public. We...are keen to inform consumers that their future vehicle options include a battery electric Toyota. Toyota is the only manufacturer bringing two battery electric vehicles to market in 2012 - the RAV4 EV and Scion iQ EV."1
