Toyota is sharing some of its biggest innovations with the world outside of the auto industry. Wake Forrest University is using Toyota's T.H.U.M.S. software to study the effects of hits and tackles on football players. Their goals are to develop safer helmets and understand how to better treat injured players. NASCAR previously used the same technology to improve the structure of seats in race cars and revise their 2010 rule book.

Toyota shared their insights and innovations with Allegheny Hospital and Yellowstone National Park. Allegheny Hospital now uses Toyota's ultra-lean production method designed to eliminate errors caused by inconsistencies, overburden, and waste. And, Yellowstone National Park was able to build their own Gold certified LEED visitor's center after studying Toyota's building of the same ilk.

Now, Toyota is sharing some of their most innovative technologies (i.e., T.H.U.M.S., Solar Powered Ventilation System, Hybrid Synergy Drive, Advanced Parking Guidance System, and Touch Tracer) with the general public, online. The Japanese automaker invites everyone to review the different systems and share their ideas on how to use them to improve the world. Entries submitted thus far include a Smart Cane for the Blind (using Toyota's Advanced Parking Guidance System) and a Cooling Golf Cart (using Toyota's Powered Ventilation System).

To submit your idea for good, simply visit www.yourideasforgood.com/about. We at DCH Toyota of Torrance - 2955 Pacific Coast Highway - Torrance, CA 90505 - should also mention that Toyota will select one winner from each of the five technology categories. If your idea is chosen, Toyota will not only make it happen, but offer you a choice of the new Prius, Venza, or Highlander Hybrid.
