Prius tech is growing as well. A Prius minivan and a possible coupe are coming from Toyota. New warning systems are also soon to be available from the company.
Toyota Prius hybrid will have an optional pedestrian warning system in the US in the future, according to Associated Press. The onboard device will automatically produce an artificial sound, supposedly an amplified and synthesized reproduction of the noise an electric motor makes.
The noise is activated at speeds below 15 mph, and it fluctuates in pitch relative to the vehicle's speed, which is supposed to help pedestrians gauge their proximity to the vehicle. Other sound systems are sure to be produced following the sure success of Toyota's equipment.
